Creative writing in digital spaces will only continue to spread. It is not a matter of a new kind of artform, but an extension of the creative writing genres. I am a firm believer that those who are creative in one form, have the kind of mind that allows them to expand their creativity to other genres. For this reason, creative writing in digital spaces has no other way to go than to grow and change the way we write. A study this year found that 75% of “Global smartphone users won’t give up their device for one month, even if they were offered a day with their favorite celebrity,” (Meyer). With how much time we spend on our digital devices, it is the perfect platform to show creative writing through that space.

If we keep going the way we are, with advancements in A.I and devices such as Amazon’s Alexis and Google’s Home, we’ll eventually have nothing left to do, job-wise. The entertainment and creative industries will have no choice but to thrive, making the challenge to incorporate creative writing into digital spaces a coveted skill. On a less broad and looming note, there is already a massive selection of platforms that are perfect for digital creativity, such as Tumblr. Inspiration comes in all forms on Tumblr, from music to quotes to videos. You can post text posts as long as you want and as much as you want. Platforms like this are allowing us to expand our resources for inspiration and remixing. Social media is also easier to use than ever for advertisement of creative work. Another perk of this growth of creative writing in digital spaces is the amount of literary journals and digital media outlets that are available now. It is the perfect opportunity to publish your work, and you don’t have to live in Manhattan to do it anymore. Creative writing in digital spaces will continue to revolutionize the way in which we write, remix, and inspire.
